A Little Sweet Memory

I talked with my best friend Jie over the phone and a lots of old memories came up. I worked in a local restaurant for a short period of time when I was in school 13 years ago. The boss was a very nice lady came from HongKong, his husband was chief. They run a home business but their restaurant was very beautiful and popular. I only worked on weekend so I made good money to cover my tuition and living cost.

The couple were well-educated in England. The boss treated me very good she liked me a lot, and she always chatted with me when business was slow or before customers came in. She told me that she went to London to study when she was 18 years old and later on she met her husband there and got married and several later they came in the states, they had 2 sons and twin daughters and I met all of them during that time. Three of them were in the college and only the youngest son was with them at that time. She was a beautiful, elegant lady. She encouraged me of being alone studying in the foreign country. One time she told me that she didn't believe I came from mainland when she met me at first time. When I heard it I felt sweet with bitter. I heard some of stories about that. There were several reasons. I had worked almost 10 restaurants in the area from time to time, five of them which I would never forget about. But she was the only boss from HongKong I worked for.

During the daily chat she learned my birthday and on that day she gave a gift by my surprise. I was so moved. That's my second birthday after left home and didn't expect anybody give me a gift. Several month later I quited that job because I had to move on campus and I introduced one of my friends to fill in my shift but my friend told me she always missed me and wish me the best. Unfortunately , several years later when I came back, she sold out that restaurant.

I always remember her and appreciate the way she treated like a friend.
